On the fringe pt. 2
I had enjoyed my time at The Fringe so much last week, that with a weekend to myself, I decided to fill the Saturday with another trip to Edinburgh.
I had forgotten that in addition to The Fringe, an up and coming band by the name of Oasis were in town. This had increased the ratio of adidas clothing + bucket hat to pedestrian by a factor of 50.
Suffice it to say: Edinburgh was heaving.
I warmed up again with a comedy brunch featuring bite size sets from a few unknown comedians. I was pretty chuffed to get a big laugh from the room when one of the comedians asked me what the best thing about insurance was to which I replied “the end of the day”.
There was a brief bit of mooching about before I was back to the same place for Trevor Lock: How To Drink a Glass of Water (extra). It was the best thing I saw today and combined everything I loved as advertised - poetry, comedy, lists and questions. It went by far too quickly.
I then had to hightail it across the city from Grassmarket (pictured) to Summerhall (not pictured) for Skye. A two-hander thriller, which was brilliantly performed with some great sound effects that kept us enthralled.
The final show of the day was my wildcard - Lady Macbeth Played Wing Defence. I thought I had booked a niche opera where Lady Macbeth had been woven into a netball saga. I was half right, but it was no opera. More of a ham fisted teen-poppy musical type-thing. The clues were in the audience, where I was one of around just four men who all wished they were somewhere else.
Another brilliant day and worth going just for Trevor Lock, and getting an unscripted laugh from a room full of strangers at The Fringe. That felt pretty good.
The creative juices are swishing about once more…….
