Kaimanawa horses
Early start..........on the bus at 5.30am! The aim was to get out onto the Ranges in time for the sunrise. Sadly, the weather just didn't play ball......plenty of dense, low cloud, spits and starts of rain, huge winds and bloody cold temperatures!! Still, we were out there in the far reaches of the Kaimanawas and looking forward to what the day would bring. What would be would be.
What we got was rain and more rain, rain with a bit of sleet, a stunning rainbow over golden grasses, cold wind and of course, some horses. Not as many as we might have hoped for but given the conditions who would blame them for staying in whatever meagre shelter they could find. Regardless of the weather it was still stunning being out in the wilds of the Kaimanawas with the wild horses. I loved it. We did cut a side trip to a nearby dam out in favour of heading back to base for some warm tea and dry clothes!
I didn't take nearly as many images as I thought I might, but with fewer horses I guess that's not really a surprise.
I've added a few more pics in extras.
