Festival : Daughters of Decayed Tradesmen

A random drop into the graveyard on the way home to see this contribution to the Art festival - Christine Borland and Brody Condon have installed 100s of punchcards in a town in the New Calton Burial Ground. The cards are encoded with the oral histories of the last surviving residents of the Edinburgh's Trades Maidens' Hospital, founded in 1704 by Edinburgh Trades to provide board and education for the daughters of "decayed" tradesmen.

My day then went on to the exhibition opening by Document Scotland's 'Summer salon' at Stills Gallery in Cockburn Street, the amazing performance by Scottish Dance Theatre 'Second Coming' at Zoo Southside finished by a 30 minute performance by Michael Gambon of Samuel Becketts 'Eh Joe'. An amazing performance done purely through his facial expressions whilst hearing a voice.

Claire said 'It's Dumbledore' and then pointed out Ed Milliband sitting behind us. We had prime front row seats next to the Irish Consul General and Chief Executive from Culture Ireland
