Grebe reflections
Today’s lunch out with a friend provides an ideal opportunity to go to Rhyl’s Brickfield Pond reserve. This is where I photographed the pair of Great Crested Grebes earlier in the year, and I know from camera club members that there are now offspring - those adorable little humbugs that I’ve never managed to photograph.
It’s late in the season, but I think it’s worth a look, but though I spot the adult pair, there’s no sign of the babies. Still, these beautiful birds are always worth seeing - and photographing, though one is determined to stay far away in the shady overhang of the far bank.
Most of the bird life can be categorised into the seagull or mallard type, but there’s a trio of tufted ducks, their intense golden eyes making them look possessed according to G! And even with the mallards, watery preening sessions reveal their glorious colours.
My main is the distant grebe (better large!) catching the light under the shaded bank, with extras of a closer grebe, the ‘possessed’ tufties and a flapping mallard!
