Tomatoes!

This is yesterday's haul, some of which I made into tomato sauce to freeze in individual servings, and some of which will become my summertime lunch staple...tomato sandwiches. A good sturdy bread with lots of mayonnaise ,sliced tomatoes and salt and pepper. Yummy! There's also Gazpacho and Salmorejo, both perfect for this time of year when it's too hot to cook much.

Dana and her friend Kim cam over this afternoon and picked more tomatoes to take home along with some carrots. I think we'll be able to keep ahead of this crop if we eat tomatoes three times a day! Tonight we're having a Caprese salad and roasted carrots. Any other tomato suggestions gladly received....

We also have a nice supply of peaches thanks to Dana who drives up. to Healdsburg every week for a flat of peaches from a Dry Creek Valley orchard. She says they grow 30 different varieties and have quite a following of people who wait in line at their farmstand every Wednesday.

We're going to have to hope that fresh home grown fruits and veggies keep us healthy, since that lunatic Robert F. Kennedy Jr. , Health and Human Services direictor and vaccine denier has cut research funds for the development of mRNA vaccines which includes cancer treatment and Covid vaccines. He claims that mRNA vaccines are ineffective against mutated versions of the virus .and plans to reallocate funds  to research whole virus vaccines.

This technology played a vital role in our pandemic response and continues to show promise for treating serious diseases. Kennedy's statement represents a fundamental misunderstanding  of science. As other countries advance these proven, safe and effective therapies, American patients may  increasingly depend on foreign innovation for breakthrough treatments.
