Today I spent most of the morning working from home, before going into work for lunch with our intern and И. Afterwards, I programmed on one PC, in preparation for my return to the other, on which И was fixing the build issues that had limited my progress yesterday. Once fixed, I was able to test developer F's new solver in the context of our premier solver, and it stood up well to all the tests we run on the solver it will replace. We were also celebrating the release of the paper that F has written about his 2.5 years of work, particularly as it's the first paper to come out of the project in six years. We don't have to publish to be valued, but it doesn't go any harm!

I left earlier than usual to meet up with A and take a bus into the centre, where we saw the one-hour (largely) one-man show "Desperate Wee Gay Boy" by Fraser Kelsey (see extra). We've known him for years as he's a close friend of daughter L. It was fun and well done, and by sitting on the front row we were chosen for the brief audience participation. Afterwards, we had a brief chat with Fraser, and when he asked about L it was great to be able to give him good news. She's had an offer accepted for a flat on the outskirts of London, and has been offered a part-time job teaching music at a nursery.
