Mother Winter is on her way ....
Just before the rain came, they cut the wheat in the field behind our house. This the view over our back fence.
An old friend of mine, a farmer's wife, used to say that when the combine comes, Mother Winter is on her way. What a thought.
I did take a lot of pictures of the combine, some very close up of different parts of it. They are fantastic machines these days - it took this one about 45 minutes to cut the whole field. You can see the size of it compared with the tractor which is collecting the grain.
While all this was happening, several Emperor dragonflies made the most of the sudden influx of tiny insects fleeing the field - lots of them in the direction of our house.
As usual, we shut all windows and doors while this was going on, because of the dust that is created. They will stay shut until tomorrow, otherwise we will get a large number of very big dusty spiders coming in looking for new homes.
