Jenny Longlegs

This insect is called a Jenny Longlegs in my neck of the woods, but there appear to be many nicknames in different localities - such as a mosquito hawk, gallinipper and gollywhomper! These are great names. How such a boring insect has accumulated such colourful names defeats me. It appears to do very little but sit very still for long periods with its six legs splayed out. It can't even fly well unlike most flies, with a tendency to "wobble" in unpredictable patterns during flight. They can be caught without much trouble.

Officially, it is one of an incredible 4,250 species of crane fly identified. I spotted two resting on the window and the idea came to me to build a composite and adjust the colours. I have also added a light poster filter. So another bit of fun following on from yesterday!
