Living my dream

Nesting

Bean pointed me at this Silver Eye nest this morning. It is beautifully constructed in the middle of the bay tree.

Birds are incredibly skilled. I am in awe of the detail of the build: from the rough twigs at the bottom, to finer twigs, grass, moss and finally to cosy possum fur woven into the top. Eggs and chicks will surely be warm within its depths.

However the nest is only about 40cm above the ground, and I fear that a feral cat, or a possum will enjoy regular snacks. Fortunately there are lots of safer locations for building nests, and this is very early in the season, so with luck the birds will construct another one elsewhere and raise a brood or two...

I began Pilates at home this week - as recommended by Nicola the physiotherapist. She has suggested 10 minute sessions to start with, working up to 30 minutes gradually, and only on days when I don't exert myself in the garden.

I have completed two sessions, and to my surprise I am really enjoying it. The exercises (is that what they are, or are they positions?) stretch and ease my back and hamstring almost instantly. It is tiring though. Even 10 minutes saw me needing a rest for a wee while afterwards. And there are some muscles telling me they've been used for the first time in a while.

In case you imagine anything different I assure you that I look more like a heffalump than a lithe and glamorous Pilates practitioner, as seen on YouTube. But who cares? Not me.
