The open road... NOT!

Today my husband and I set off on a bit of a mini-vacation, leaving the kids with Grandma for a few days.

Our journey today took us through the oil fields and agricultural areas and up to Soda Lake in the Carrizo Plain National Monument before spending the night in San Luis Obispo.

The scenery was quite spectacular (although I think the Soda Lake area was slightly misrepresented on their website as we couldn't find the visitor centre!) but, as you can see, there were a lot of road works to negotiate and at one point we ended up on a gravel road which I'm sure was private! All in all, a very interesting start to our road trip!
