On This Day In History
1945: Atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima

Quote Of The Day
"Hiroshima has become a metaphor not just for nuclear war but for war and destruction and violence toward civilians. It's not just the idea we should not use nuclear arms. We should not start another war because it's madness."
(Max von Sydow)

Bonus Quote Of The Day
"It is the determination of the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists that the world has not made sufficient progress on existential risks threatening all of humanity. We thus move the clock forward. In setting the clock closer to midnight we send a stark signal. Because the world is already perilously close to the precipice, any move toward midnight should be taken as an indication of extreme danger and an unmistakable warning. Every second of delay in reversing course increases the probability of global disaster. It is now 89 seconds to midnight, the closest the world has ever been to midnight. We set the clock closer to midnight because we do not see sufficient progress, positive progress on the global challenges we face, including nuclear risk, climate change, biological threats, and advances in disruptive technologies."
(Daniel Holz, Chair of the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists)

Not much to show for eighty years, is it, mankind?

What can we honestly expect when the U.S. president moves two nuclear submarines towards Russia because the Deputy Chair of Russia's Security Council compared him to "Sleepy" Joe Biden.

Will we have a nuclear war because a thin-skinned narcissist doesn't like being called names?

Or will the world slowly fry itself with runaway global warming? A few days ago, Japan recorded its highest ever temperature - 41.2 degrees in Tamba City, Hyogo Prefecture. Yesterday it beat that record with a temperature of 41.8 degrees in Isesaki City, Gunma Prefecture.

How can we sleep when our beds are burning?

UPDATE
Scientific, statistically significant astronomical data strongly indicates that technologically constructed objects were in geosynchronous orbit above the Earth at the time of the 1952 Washington Flyover of U.F.O.'s, and at the same time as nuclear bomb tests. That's five years prior to the launch of Sputnik in 1957. Were (are?) these objects hostile or benign; do they move the Doomsday Clock forwards or backwards?
