And the hurricane strikes again
Despite the pain of last night, and the fact I went to bed early, I slept all the way through till around 7:30am, when I couldn’t ignore the signals coming from my bladder any longer. That’s almost a nine-hour sleep, which has been unheard of for me since God-knows when. Having slept in the basement, discretion being the better part of valour and all that, I came up to find everyone else still in bed. I made some coffee, fed the cats, and then went out to water the garden, something I have been significantly remiss about for a while. And it shows.
Mrs. Ottawacker was up when I came back in. Ottawacker Jr. had apparently had trouble getting to sleep last night and had actually been quite upset about having to come back. I get that, I have the same issues when I get back to Ottawa (most notably in 2010, when I was devastated at having to come back from my first visit to the Drôme). He ended up sleeping with his mum (so much for both of us getting a good night’s sleep). In the end, he was still asleep at noon (still on Pacific time), so we decided to wake him up. Completely back to normal, and he was bright and bubbly once again. Probably completely over tired from his trip, and the travel, and the late night.
At 12, Liverpool kicked off a double-header against Athletic Club (Bilbao, to you and me) in a couple of pre-season friendlies. First game was brilliant – and once again it was the 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha who stole the show. I said in the last game that it was one thing to do it with a Japanese right back against you, but another with a hairy-arsed Evertonian hacking at your ankles. This time, it wasn’t an Evertonian, but there was a hairy-arsed Basque – and it made no difference at all. He scored after 90 seconds, created a second five minutes later, and generally created panic for the rest of the game. Very promising. In the end, Liverpool won 4-1 in the first game, and then 3-2 in the second, fielding a completely different side.
Quick bite to eat, and then we were out to Elizabeth Manley Park for the restart of Ottawacker Jr.’s football season. They had to play the other top-of-the-table team, OSU White, and lost 301. He generally played well – but you could tell he was a little rusty. None of the goals were his fault, so these are just small nitpickings.
Home for some dinner around 8.30 – and then we watched a movie-length version of Rosemary & Thyme (don’t ask), which we figured would help with the time recalibration. The days are busy again.
