Joe's Blips

Holy Cross Church, Hattula.

A very famous Lutheran church building this and only twenty minutes drive from here. The church was built between 1472 and 1490 and in the absence of stained glass with which to tell the Bible stories, artists of the time (possibly nuns) painted pictures all over the inside walls and ceiling using lime water in which to dissolve their colours. Work on these began in 1510. Think about it, that's just over 500 years ago!
