Last man standing
Today was the final day of the gripping fifth Test Match of this summer's series between England and India. England needed 35 runs to win to achieve the winning target of 374 and had 4 wickets in hand at the start of play. I felt I had to watch the action and, not being a subscriber to Sky, I popped along to Chobham Golf Club where it was being shown on a big screen. And it only cost me a cup of black coffee! I would have had one of their excellent bacon baps had England won but sadly that was not to be. India won by 6 runs despite the heroics of Chris Woakes who came to the wicket with his dislocated shoulder in a sling. In the event Woakes didn't have to face a ball as the other batter, Gus Atkinson, kept the strike. Woakes was clearly in agony on the two occasions when he had to run between the wickets. England really should have won the match but India's win meant the series was drawn two-all which, given how closely matched the two sides were, was generally considered a fair outcome. The next England test match will be in November when they start the new Ashes series against Australia in Perth, Western Australia. Now, I've been to Australia a couple of times but never to Perth....
Apologies to any fellow blippers who haven't a clue what I'm on about. I'd be only too happy to explain the wonders of the noble game that is cricket.
