Living my dream

Hare brain

Bean followed scent trails all over this paddock for more than 15 minutes. A hare had certainly been there very recently. She is just visible in the distance.

Eventually she moved off further to the left, and in another 10 minutes she came across it in some long grass. A short intense chase ensued, ending in a fence through which the hare ran, and in front of which Bean put on her brakes.

Our walk was therefore longer than usual, because I stood in the sun and admired Bean's ability to track and follow a smell. She was completely absorbed, other than very occasionally checking to see where I was.

It was -4.5C this morning. That's the coldest of the winter so far. And it took an age to lift. I had an early lunch of hearty soup and sourdough, and got out into the garden as soon as it wasn't too cold.

Bean retired to her sun-drenched bed on the guest deck to supervise my various labours.
