KernowJam Day 6 - Impact
An on site day today in the Impact Zone. My group started off with a thought provoking activity based on refugees - how would they feel if they were woken by their parents in the middle of the night and told they had to flee? What would they take? Why choose those things? How would they escape their country? What would they do when they arrived somewhere safe? We were really impressed with how engaged our Explorers were and the answers they came up with.
Then on to the first aid tent to practice first aid skills - we did worry a couple might fall asleep as they laid in the floor as ‘casualties’! This was followed by a mock earthquake - a dark, smoke filled tent with lots of boxes - one goes in to hide and the other 3 had to find them. This linked to the Shelterbox man who talked about what they do - again the Explorers were engaged and asked some really good questions.
Finally, we rounded off the morning with some pasty making courtesy of Ann’s pasties and possibly the highlight of MrRoly’s week.
After lunch it was crafty stuff and was a lovely chilled afternoon. Everyone found something to do and again, our Explorers all congregated on the straw bales in the middle of the crafty area to chat as they made friendship bracelets. It’s possible us leaders did similar with some of our younger scouts in one of the marquees!
The evening entertainment saw us dress up in our Sub Camp costumes - Pendennis was ours do we were all dragons chasing one Knight!
