Road to Helvellyn

Today was all about scaling the Lake District's second biggest (and much more attractive, I've been reliably informed) mountain, Helvellyn. Standing at 950m, this was a massive physical effort but I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and the views were simply breath-taking.

This was taken during the ascent, looking back over Raise. Thankfully these ominous clouds proved harmless and the sun shone for most of the afternoon. Which was just as well as we got rather lost on the way back and needed all the daylight we could get our hands on...

Still, 6.5hrs and 13km later, I was back in the car park. Exhausted, aching and relieved to be down but really rather chuffed.
