Gormire

A damp morning turned into a beautiful day so we had an early lunch and headed out for a walk from Boltby to Gormire.

Gormire is the smallest of Yorkshire's four natural lakes. It has no inflow or major outflow but somehow brims clear year round from an invisible source. It features a lot in local mythology, is said to be bottomless, a portal to hell, and the waters cover a submerged village. It was apparently popular with wild swimmers, although notices around the lake say swimming is no longer allowed. Swimmers apparently reported that it is seething with leeches!
