The annual beano begins
Much time spent shredding old documents (OK, I actually burned them on the portable BBQ) and organising my filing shelf in the nook cupboard in anticipation of new arrivals to salt away awhile. It ten years’ time (if I’m spared) I’ll chuck the new things onto the incinerator too.
And Lordy, was it warm. I gather the Scandinavian countries are having a heatwave too. So, the Festival is upon us and first up, Make it Happen, at the Festival Theatre. Starring Brian Cox as Adam Smith and somebody else as Fred Goodwin. Played for laughs and sort of a musical too, it’s OK. The Guardian and Times both give it 3/5 but of course, Joyce McM in the Scotsman isn’t so cruel, or discerning and gives it four. Everyone is a bit one dimensional and caricaturised in the manner of this sort of entertainment (it might have been better to have done it in the manner of a panto so we could hiss when he came on stage) so without much really sharp writing in there it becomes a tad tedious. The long running John Lewis joke certainly raises a chuckle however – the true small town Edinburgh spirit captured there. That reminds me – only three weeks till my birthday week!
