Fallen Giant

About 10 days ago we heard about a massive tree that had fallen across one of our main suburban arterial roads, and as it happened it was very close to our church.

So after the service this morning we took a short detour to have a squiz.  The image isn't all that great, because the tree is on a very busy corner and there was traffic everywhere, and this was taken from the car window.

This image doesn't even begin to demonstrate the girth of this 200 year plus tree.  It's easily 7 foot I would say from the ground to the top of the  cut section.

It's going to take them a very long time to cut it into pieces and remove it.  

Nothing specific made it fall which is why its very scary, but I imagine that the double whammy of a prolonged drought, followed by heavy rain caused the tree to fail.  

A minor (major!) miracle that no-one was hurt.
