The Portsoy Geology Wall
This fascinating retaining dry stane dyke near the Portsoy Salmon Bothy is constructed from stone found on the coast in the vicinity of Portsoy. The Caithness slate 'shelves' display labelled samples of igneous and metamorphic rocks including the much prized Portsoy 'marble,' actually a form of serpentine, famously used for fireplaces the Palace of Versaille and for jewellery and trinkets.
