Working The Land

Since moving to live in Shropshire, I have become more aware of how things work in the country. It has been a sobering learning curve, especially observing the farmers going about their business.

These guys never rest. From daybreak till late into the night. I have watched them gathering the harvest, preparing the land for the next crop, ploughing, drilling, sowing and harvesting. A never ending cycle with the aim of putting food on the table. Our table.

I will always be grateful for their work ethic, commitment and physical capabilities. They have a tremendous amount to put up with, and for very little recognition.

Heroes in my opinion.

I have mowed two lawns today. And planted two lavendar plants which had outgrown their pots. Done some weeding and watering.

I am weary after a day's efforts in the garden. Tomorrow I can rest.

No such luxury for the farmer . He has to keep going.
