Bletchley Park

Today I met up with my friends C and M for a day at Bletchley Park. I’ve been a few times over the years including when it was very run down and run by volunteers, then it got lottery funding and became an impressive museum (I used to live in Milton Keynes). My aunt worked there and my dad was there - not sure if he worked there or just visited delivering / collecting intelligence when based at nearby Whaddon (operations there originated at BP, then moved to Whaddon when BP needed more space). Around 9,000 people worked there during the war, 75% of whom were women. I’ve not been for around fifteen years and there were some interesting new exhibitions including one on intelligence and D-Day, and another on artificial intelligence. The entry cost provides an annual pass, so we’ll be going again and following the audio guide next time. We also had a lovely afternoon tea in the mansion (in my collage). The other photos are a room in the mansion, a great statue of Alan Turing and also an enigma machine.
