Silver-studded

I decided to have a butterfly day today and took myself off first thing to the far north of Shropshire in the hope of finding a late-flying Large Heath at Whixall Moss. When I arrived conditions were not great, low cloud, cold and windy. After two hours I eventually spotted one very worn Large Heath. My first ever sighting of this species. Unfortunately I didn't get a shot in focus. I then moved onto to Prees Heath in the hope of finding some Silver-studded blues still flying. The sun came out, the wind dropped and I was rewarded with twenty or so late season Silver-studded blues. My blip today is a female Silver-studded Blue low down in the heather. You can just see the tiny blue 'studs' on the underside of the hindwing.
