Orkney Beachcombing 2025
A beautiful sail to Kirkwall yesterday evening. Sunny and warm on deck. Time for a quick drink before catching the bus to Stromness. Had a rather odd picnic meal in the ferry terminal before boarding at about 9:45 pm. A complimentary sleepy time tea in the Magnus Lounge then off to the cabin.
I didn’t sleep well and neither did J. We were up on deck to wave goodbye to Hamnavoe, from the MV Hamnavoe, as we left at 06:30. (extra). Fortified by breakfast (included in the ticket price – such a brilliant idea) we enjoyed the sail to Scrabster. There we were met by the taxi we’d booked to take us to the railway station. I’m going to write to the Transport Secretary about the woeful lack of integrated public transport at Scrabster. The taxi was fine and the train left Thurso on time.
J left at Dingwall for a lift home. I’m now on the train from Inverness which will, unfortunately, stop at Perth. Cows on the line. I can get another connection so I’m not too inconvenienced. I do have a heavy rucksack though!
I was able to do some beachcombing in Pierowall and as usual I’m blipping some of my finds, as yet unwashed. I didn’t have time to be very systematic in my searching but there’s always some treasure.Other years' collections are here , here, here, here, here and here.
It’s been a brilliant few days. I’m going to write more but probably not till tomorrow when I’ve had time to draw breath. Much though I loved being away I’ll be happy to reach home.
Meanwhile thanks for following the trip and for all the comments, stars and hearts.
