Gimmelwald

I took the steep alpine road down from Murren to Gimmelwald this afternoon. Gimmelwald sits at a lower altitude than Murren but is a more functional village. There are many farms here where the farmers tend small strips of alpine pasture overlooking the valley below. (I happen to know one of these farms quite well!!)

The smells and sounds of Gimmelwald are properly authentic and there are fewer tourists here than in Murren (although plenty of backpackers use the Mountain Hostel in the village).
