Boab back on the bales…..
Another busy day.
First job was to put the cows we have weaned through the cattle crush and do them with fly repellent pour on. Hopefully this helps prevent summer mastitis before they calve. Also replaced missing ear tags in the ones I had tags for. This is a never ending task. Cattle have to have 2 official tags but they are forever losing them or ripping them out. Some brands of tags are worse than others though.
Any way, ran them out to a field, then separated the bullock calves from the heifers ready to cart them out to fields .
The vet arrived with 3 students in tow to treat a poorly cow, the mechanics arrived to fix a burst water hose on the John Deere tractor , and by the time all that was done it was 11.30am. Headed off to finish baling silage in the field I started yesterday. Had it done by 2 pm, so left Kev and wee brother to cart them in and wrap them while I went down the road to feed the heifers.
Later on wee brother came to help me finish carting in the bales the contractor baled and wrapped on Tuesday. The only problem we have is the crows have been at a lot if the bales , making holes in the plastic , both with their claws and pecking at them. So a lot of patching with tape to keep the air out and a fair bit of swearing at the crows.
Eventually got them all lifted and stacked by 9 pm so not bad going… At least that’s another field cleared.
