Buy your second hand clothes....
First thing today I had to go to the road traffic office to get my COF (certificate of fitness) for the car! I was there at 7.30 when it opened but was not assisted until 9.15 because no one came to work.............I knew this was going to happen though and took a book with me!!
Spent the rest of the day in the office as I leave for Jo'burg on Sunday and will be away for a week!
When I first came to Malawi there were vendors all over the streets selling their wares - you could not walk on any footpaths (that is in the places where there were footpaths) and had to walk on the roads. Then the Government decided we would clean up the streets and all vendors were told to move into markets which were built for them! However, gradually they have moved back onto the streets and mid afternoon these days it is quite difficult to navigate a bicycle or car through the streets in the middle of town. This afternoon I was travelling on the main road into town and passed the second hand clothes market which has suddenly mushroomed all over the place. I love this shot because of the light, and the rubbish heap in the background, and yet all the hussle and bustle of people checking out all the clothes!
Interestingly right now on the BBC world service there is a programme about second hand clothing in Malawi!!
Have a great weekend everyone!
