Pleasure & Pain

Our local bookshop is very involved with the local community and often puts on events that townsfolk can join in with.  It's celebrating its 5th Birthday and so another series of events had been arranged over this weekend.  I accompanied friends H&M to a talk being held in our local church.  It was an interview/chat with Simon Finch.  Simon is an antiquarian bookseller and also the owner of the fabulous Arts & Crafts house Voewood, just up the road.

He chatted about how his fascinating career in selling old and rare books began and also about the history of Voewood and how it's been transformed over the last 25 years since he bought it.

It was very enjoyable and well attended and we all shared an enormous slice of Victoria sponge afterwards and a very welcome cup of tea in the cafe area attached to the church.

On a less happy note, having had a day of remedial work completed on Monday to raise the Velux windows in our newly roofed conservatory to stop them leaking, we woke up to water coming in again, this time in a different place.  M made his feeling known to the company very strongly at 9am this morning. They came and inspected it this afternoon and we await (another plan) to sort it out when they ring us on Monday.  The conservatory was completed over two months ago and we still can't use it.  We had to postpone our furniture delivery again.  So, not such a relaxing day for M.
