Display window (83): An ugly birthday gift

Today is Switzerland's national holiday. It is well known that our local baker is not good at decorating his shop window. But then again, he is supposed to be good at baking bread. 

The ugly gift comes from the USA. When we woke up this morning, the nation learned that the Trump administration is imposing a 39 percent tariff on Switzerland, which is even higher than the 31 percent announced on April 2. It is the highest of all European countries and one of the highest in the world. 

It is true that our country exports more goods to the US than vice versa. However, when services are taken into account, we import more than we export. Overall, the balance is relatively even. 

We will see if anything can be changed before it comes into effect in a week's time. It's a shame about the damage to the relationship.
