The Lozarithm Lens

Coate Water Park (Wednesday 30th July 2025)

When I set off in Buzz I hadn't decided where I was going, but as I drove through Avebury I settled on Coate Water Park in Swindon, and arrived there 1411 hr and walked clockwise around the lake, pausing half way around for a cappuccino from the café.

I had two cameras with me but my bridge camera gave out while photographing the cormorants (see Extra) and the spare battery was also flat, so after that I had only a wide-angle to standard zoom available, sadly. I'd never seen so many cormarants on their favoured tree.

A first for me was the sighting of two muntjac deer, half-an-hour apart. I got back to the car two hours later and did some grocery shopping in Wootton Bassett Aldi on the way home.

Today I learned that a Chiloé Wigeon had been seen there yesterday. It comes from South America and is occasionally seen in Scotland. I didn't notice it.

Lozarithm's Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Julie Driscoll and the Brian Auger Trinity - I Am A Lonesome Hobo (recorded April 1968, Paris)
Julie Driscoll (vcl), Brian Auger (org), Dave Ambrose (bass, vcl), Clive Thacker (drums) with 'Polly' Perkins (flute)
I've been playing through my new copy of I Shall Be Released: Covers Of Bob Dylan 1963-1970, which has quite a few rare items I didn't have. One of the highlights is this single that wasn't released in the UK at all, but in Italy it was paired with her big hit, This Wheel's On Fire, which, like this, was a Bob Dylan cover. It first appeared on his 1967 album John Wesley Harding. It was also released in Spain and France in 1968 while they were touring in Europe.
