The deed is done, the document signed, and now the villa is owned by a German woman. The final meeting, where M signs the document handing over the villa, is properly formal yet also relaxed. All documents checked and re-checked. Bankers draft inspected. M’s passport confirmed. The notary reads the final document aloud, then it’s printed. Then our solicitor translates the document, aloud, for M. And he signs.
The end of an era - but it was time for that era to end.
(I didn’t like to ask for a photo, which might have caused a fluster and involved people checking to see if it was permissible, so took this, under the table, to mark the moment)
