Mormond Braes

Today I came across this sheet music for Mormand Braes - a locally well known folk song,  This edition was published in 1965, the drawing on the cover depicts Strichen with the figure of the white horse on Mormond Hill in the background. Mormond was the original name for Strichen.
The song was written by Dr Alexander Gavin who, having served as a naval surgeon under Nelson before becoming a GP in Strichen, his native village.
The song tells  of a pragmatic girl who was forsaken by her lover but went down from the Braes to Strichen to find a replacement - there being, ' mony a lass has lost her lad and gotten a nither  richt early'.
