House In The Country . . . The Kinks.
Wide Wednesday . . . OLD
After the pool I went to check out the roses at Broadgreen House. You can't see the rose beds in the blip but you can see one of the gardeners stopped to have her lunch. I wanted to see if they were prunning their roses the same as me. I have been prunning for many years but I just felt like having some reassurance. This is an historic house for us. Built between 1854 and 1857 it is made of 'cob'. Cob was a common building material in early New Zealand because it was cheap, easy to construct and required few tools. Cob is a wet mixture of clay, dung and straw that dries hard like concrete. The house is now a museum. The extra is the conservatory which can't be entered because it is subsiding at it's foundations. The blue ribbons on the house are not for a celebration. They are Aqua Sleeves or temporary downpipes. You learn something everyday on blip.
On the way home I went to the nursery and bought a new rose bush. I hadn't intended to but there you go. It is Lasting Love, a hybrid tea, scented red rose, prolific flowering and exceptionally healthy. Lets see if it lives up to the label.
