It’s a wrap….
All go today. First job was to bring another batch of cows and calves in off the hill and rodeo them down to the steading. They are getting weaned , so the cows get shut in one shed and the calves in another. They will make a lot of noise for a couple of days then they will forget about each other. The cows are due to start calving soon so they need time to build up colostrum.
Next , the silage contractor came in to row up the fields he cut yesterday. They should have gone into the silage pit when we were at the job , but there wasn’t room. So he came back this afternoon to bale and wrap it. This McHale baler does both jobs in one machine, making the bale then transferring it to the wrapper at the back.
After lunch , I went and started cutting another field of grass. Did half of it as I have another one cut hopefully to bale tomorrow.
Had just finished when the lorry arrived in with the 14 Saler bulling heifers I’ve bought. They came from a farm at Stranraer . Hopefully they will make decent cows.
Headed off down the road tonight to feed the heifers. There was a big limb had broken off an ash tree in one of the house gardens and flattened the fence and hedge. Luckily it wasn’t the field with the cattle in. So another job to add to the to do list …..
