A magical day!

What a wonderful day! And I don’t think I’ve ever seen Simon happier!

We all meet outside Islington Town Hall - actually a really lovely building.  Buttonholes are handed out and last minute nerves calmed before the grooms and witnesses head up for the actually ceremony - there’s no room for anyone else!

Sunshine, floral displays and outside seating makes waiting very pleasant - and eventually the wedding party cone down the steps, faces beaming! There are hugs and congratulations before heading back into the building for photographs - no prizes for guessing who’s the official photographer!

Then it’s champagne - Lloyd’s packed a bottle and glasses - and lots of laughter  before we walk to the pub where we’ll have the wedding meal. Of course, it’s a free choice from the menu rather than a set meal, and dessert is the tiramisu opera cake that Lloyd has decorated with bespoke Lego figures (he’s a big Lego fan!)

The witnesses are delightful; Tom, one of Simon’s architect friends from University, and Ben, one of Lloyd’s fellow teachers. Conversation flows!

It’s then a walk to another pub - this one by the canal so it’s a very pleasant stroll. By now we’re all flagging a bit, so after an hour or so, the wedding party splits up, with G and I making our way to the Bridge Theatre via an incredibly hot tube where I think I might just pass out.

Yes, crazily, I’ve booked to see A Midsummer Night’s Dream - though all I really want is to be horizontal on our hotel bed! We’re not even sure whether we’ll last the whole play - but it’s absolutely superb and of course we do. The immersive experience and promenade performance is incredible - Bottom is brilliant, and the twist that has Titania having Puck put the potion over Oberon’s eyes has hilarious results! Highly recommended.

I’m exhausted, almost staggering back to the hotel, but I wouldn’t have missed a moment. And to see our son so happy has been an absolute joy.

I’ve yet to get through editing my haul of photographs, but hears a few to give a flavour! You can see I went for trousers in the end!
