Hammersmith in bloom
The Thames at Hammersmith at low tide (Beckett's wharf) looking towards the Harrod's repository.
I wish I could say something nice about the electric green algal bloom floating on the mud, but the fact is that it is there for a reason. The Hammersmith combined sewer outflow (CSO) is one of the most active of the sewage outlets and can produce quite a 'gusher' when the pumps are running at full tilt. There is even a warning not to park your boat near the outlet as the sudden wash could flip it over, then you'd really be in the s**t.
With the sewers running so full all the time Thames Water have to pump out at the slightest hint of rain otherwise the sewers start to backup into people's homes. More info at RATS.
