On This Day In History
1945: Plane crashes into the Empire State Building

Quote Of The Day
"The charred remains of the dead ....... in the Empire State Building tragedy were identified yesterday while souvenir seekers and looters had a ghoulish field day among the debris."
(The Daily Mirror, July 31, 1945)

I was hoping to get a photo of a bigger, closer plane for today's blip but, with the temperate already exceeding 32 degrees at 10:00 and with a forecast high of 36 degrees, I decided to scrub round it.

You can search for the plane in the main photo if you like, or you can search for it in the extra; that one is easier to find but the horizon is slightly wonky which is why I didn't make it my main photo.

I was waiting for something
I was listening to my breathing
Like a man listening to life.
I was looking for fire
It could take me or leave me
It could all just burn away.
The oxygen law.
It reminds me.

I'd been surrounded for hours
By the sound of thinking metal
And I knew something was wrong.
I can tell you what fear is
It is the smell of burning
And I'd been close once before.

I could tell you of horror,
I could show you the pieces
But I just want to forget.
I'm not sure if I saw it,
I'm not sure if I heard it,
I just screamed, "I can't get out!"
God Only Knows
