Jersey Tiger And Pepperpot

I've seen Jersey tiger moths flitting about for a week or so. Most have reddish orange underwings but some have yellow. I photographed the one above with my yellow car in the background.

The first seedpod on MrQ's poppy is ripe. I remember them being called pepperpots as a child and talk of opium coming from poppies and of Samuel Taylor Coleridge using laudanum, which is opium mixed with alcohol. I've been reading round the subject today. Opium poppies were being grown in Hampshire and Wiltshire for medicinal purposes under licence but I think there have been problems. Morphine derived from opium is a very powerful pain killer which has been used for centuries. It was administered to my mother and MrQ during their final days. My daughter's mother-in-law who is living with COPD has been prescribed it as it helps her to breathe more easily.
