Last Auks?

Suddenly, there are lots of empty cliffs and empty burrows at Sumburgh Head. Have all the auks gone already? Is that autumn?

There are still a small number of guillemots and one or two razorbills and puffins.  Seems very early for the puffins to have gone, it suggests that (despite the entertainment they've provided over the last few weeks) they've had a bad breeding season.
