A favourite painting of the South Downs……..
……hanging on the wall of the back bedroom.
It is a print I bought a long time back now.
The painter was Norman Thelwell, and it is dated July 18th 1976.
The summer of the really long heatwave,
We were living in a two bedroomed first floor Portsmouth City Council flat at that time,
Our Matt was not quite 2 months old. The flats had no internal staircase and an external set leading up to the outside walkway.
It was sweltering inside and out all summer!
The painting has lots of memories attached to it.
The South Downs were looking exactly like this painting last week, with fields of ripe grain, and hints of Autumn.
It stays in your mind and heart.
The finale of the Tour de France today. Always emotional and exciting to watch!
