V&A Storehouse East
I am kicking myself for not getting the outside of this for my album but also not trying harder to find a shot that shows the scale and context. It is hard to photograph as it kind of, intentionally, looks like the bit where you pick up the things from IKEA but it is such a thrill and a blast.
My friend Lola from Series Mania jury arrived on the Eurostar at 1030 and we caught the express up to Stratford and walked over to Storehouse. As it is just behind where Beetle and Cheryl are moving into in the Olympic park - we saw their house rising up behind its hoardings. It’s going to be very central in the park and there will be a lot of building around them for the next few years. There is a school right by the house but they are keeping Ivy at the one in Stratford
Spent a glorious hour in Storehouse, it’s so well done. There’s some help as to what you’re looking at but mainly they spotlight different things. I loved that they’ve saved a chunk of the Robin Hood Brutalist estate and restored it lovingly so you can see the dream before it started to decay.
B/C and I/L came to meet us and we walked over to Inis and had a delicious lunch with Guinness cake and lots of good things before walking back across the park. There has been real growth in the planting in the park since I first saw it and the herbaceous borders are tall and lush. Beautiful with a very Piet Oudolf palette.
Parted at Westfield and we went on to the Tate Modern to show Lola the river and have a cup of tea. We did little more than wander about before wandering over to Waterloo and catching a fast train home. Which inevitably ground to a signally halt just before Haslemere.
Got in around 8.30. Woody pleased to see us and we ate veg curry and chatted before bed.
