Allotment 2022 onwards

By misetak

An allotment day.

I started early and put in about 7 hours in two sessions. It was wonderful and I got a lot done.

The job I didn't do was harvesting the rest of the elephant garlic as it is still being enjoyed by some interesting insects. This one is the lesser hornet hoverfly (Volucella inanis) and is rather beautiful.

There has been some rain while I was away (hooray) and there was a ladybird swimming for her life in the rain gauge. After that rescue, it was on to the serious business of harvesting.

Today I brought home:
Onions, brown, red and white.
The second early potatoes.
The first courgettes - 2 rather large ones and 2 smaller ones.
The last rhubarb harvest.
The first of the carlin and Latvian grey peas
The final handful of broad beans and cut down the old stems (they are already resprouting from the base)
Some gladioli
I also dug over the onion bed and watered it in preparation for sowing some salad crops tomorrow, and once home checked  and cleaned the potatoes for storing.
Phew!
