Minerve redux

It is becoming tradition that when we visit John and Wendy in Olonzac, we revisit the medieval village of Minerve nearby. Today the winds were so strong we put off a visit to the beach at Narbonne and instead explored the dried bed of the river Cesse that runs through and beneath the medieval village.

It was a tough hike, albeit only seven kilometres. Hot and unforgiving the river bed twisted over pebble filled gullies and through huge caverns, where visitors had constructed tall pebble structures. I know many folk decry these monuments, but humans have been stacking rocks for millenia, and I did too.

Back for a late afternoon swim and a huge barbecue it was soon time to fall over (that wasn't the barbecue, that was the wine...!), and sleep to the sound of the cicadas... after all, who needs tinnitus when there is a symphony going on outside...
