DRIFTING
It's Grid Life weekend at Road America and one of the daytime venues is drifting. This was a just a "for fun" session and I'll admit it.....I don't get it. Yeah...it takes a certain amount of driving skill to slip/slide around the Motorplex course while avoiding the other cars and it's quite impressive. But all they do is burn up tires tyres and I witnessed at least three engines blow up as well. Pretty expensive weekend for some.

I'm told that there is competition that is judged but it involves two cars at a time...not the whole field. I'm not certain exactly which criteria are followed but it has to do with speed through the corners, angles of attack, etc.

I should have worn a face mask....I'm fairly certain that breathing in the clouds of tire tyre smoke was not a healthy thing to do...especially since the local air was marginal at best thanks to fire smoke drifting into the area from forrest fires in Canada. Perhaps at my autopsy they'll find chunks of Goodyear and wood in my lungs.

You Motorheads out there will notice the extreme amount of negative camber in the front end. Apparently, that helps grip while cornering.

I just had an interesting thought. Maybe the main objective of this "competition" is to see who can shorten the lifespan of a tire tyre the quickest? Any thoughts out there in Blipville?
