Kayaks and weirs (and a tunnel)
We enjoyed the kayaking, last week, so the Minx suggested we do it with the miniMinx, which I was totally up for.
This time we decided to do a slightly different course, doing a five kilometre route on another river. This one has long stretches between weirs, which means the river doesn't flow very fast, making the five kilometres a bit more work than last week's eight.
However, the slides on the weirs more than compensated! My Blip shows the Minx flying down hers and the miniMInx is in my first Extra.
As you can see, the lip is a couple of feet above the water, providing a tremendous splash on landing before you whizz away. Wonderful fun!
When we got back home in the afternoon, I decided to go down and look at the old railway tunnel that runs beneath Célas. On the way down to the entrance, I came up with lots of reasons why it would be foolish to walk along the unlit tunnel.
My second Extra is of the entrance to the tunnel, which didn't look at all inviting, but when I got closer, I realised you could just see the far end.
Somehow that was reassuring enough for me to embark along it.
I'm not superstitious and I don't believe in ghosts and whatnot, but my third Extra is the only time I turned around to look behind me.
Whatever my fears were, I was pleased to reach the far end and make my way back to the house. Having conquered a fear, and feeling somewhat emboldened, I rang the restaurant that we want to go to tomorrow evening to book at table IN FRENCH.
I was pretty pleased with myself when I was done, and I went down to the pool to tell the Minx and miniMinx what I'd achieved.
To be honest, I was expecting looks of disbelief and to receive some kudos, but they both looked mildly horrified. It turned out that the Minx had already rung them!
Consequently, we had to drive up to the restaurant later, where I had the task of explaining what had happened, which was far more difficult!
