Coccinella 11-punctata

Fortunately, we are not yet plagued with Harlequin ladybirds and the commonest one around this part of Fife is the 7-spot. Next most commonly seen is the two-spot,

After seeing at least two dozen of the 7-spot variety, I was surprised to see a stranger amongst them. With five and a half spots on each wing-case this is the Eleven-Spot Ladybird (Coccinella 11-punctata).

I have put in a report of it on the ladybird survey website as their distribution map didn't show any reports of it from this particular 10km square.

There's not been much else to choose from as it has been foggy / thick haar all day apart from a half-hour break mid-afternoon.

I am still monitoring the opening / closing of sow-thistle blooms and will report further tomorrow.
