Kamera To Kamera Via A Kowa, Aylesford
My quest to try and be more creative with my image making is an ongoing process so when I found a very old school SLR in the house (which may have migrated from the loft to the garage before making its way indoors) I felt it would help make for an interesting shot.
With the main photo I chose to go with an image looking down towards my feet as I sat on an outdoor bench in the back garden. I wasn't intending to feature the camera strap from my present camera but I then realised it was a great contrast with the retro camera I'd found. It's a Kowa SE-T Japanese SLR from around 1965 and was their first camera to feature TTL metering hence the extra T in its name. It's a rather aesthetically appealing camera (see my extra that captures it"s beauty a bit more) but unfortunately it had an Achilles heel in the form of it's shutter. Instead of the more conventional and easier to manufacture focal plane shutter it was built with a leaf shutter which proved, at least at this point in history, to be unreliable and very expensive to repair. This camera is a case in point as the shutter is stuck, it won't wind on and you can see nothing through the viewfinder! Kowa departed the SLR camera market in the early Seventies to concentrate on other optical devices but I still like it's beautiful design.
My last touch to enhance my shots was to include some rather wonderfully graphic flat vacuum bags that we've just purchased as a background. I think they look rather cool!
