We had just walked a big chunk of the newly opened Pennine way That’s me on the left demonstrating how not to wear a scout beret.

As we walked we sang songs including the latest hit Do Wah Diddy Diddy by Manfred Mann.

So when we met this DJ on the train home we asked him to play it as a request for us on Radio Luxembourg.He did and and the rest is history

Yes that man was the now infamous Jimmy Savile
