The Long Walk

When I spotted that today's Wide Wednesday Challange was "Long" , I immediately thought of the The Long Walk created by King Charles II in 1682-85 to connect Windsor Castle to Windsor Great Park. The tree-lined avenue stretches almost 2.5 miles to its highest point with the famous Copper Horse statue depicting King George III.

I parked in the park and joined the walk just under 2 miles from the castle at the gate into the deer park, but headed towards the castle. Although it was not my original intention, I kept walking until I found myself in Windsor, where I'm afraid I had to have an ice cream to recover, before taking the long walk back!

This is the view at the castle end looking towards the copper horse, which is disappearing in the haze on the horizon.
